Kansai-born math rock outfit tricot have come a long way since I first became a fan around the release of 2012's Bakkyun EP. Makkuro, or Black, was the first of two full-length albums released this year, and the first to be released on Avex records. Personally, I was more into this one. While not much of a departure from the established tricot formula, there is a definite refinement at play here. Drummer Yusuke Yoshida cements himself as an integral part of the band lineup while vocalist Ikkyu Nakajima provides the emotional core with some of the best vocal performances of her career.

2012年に発表された「バキューンEP」のころからファンになって以来、関西出身のマスロック・ユニット＝tricot は大きく成長した。2020年にリリースされた2枚のフル・アルバムのうち、エイベックスからのメジャー・デビュー作となったのが『真っ黒』で、個人的にもこっちの方がハマりました。本作は、これまでの tricot のバンド・サウンドから大きく外れたわけではないが、確かな洗練さを宿している。ドラムの吉田雄介はバンドのラインナップに欠かせない存在となり、ヴォーカルの中嶋イッキュウはキャリア最高のパフォーマンスによってエモーショナルなバンド・サウンドの発信源として堂々と君臨している。
