Tokyo’s Dos Monos perform a victory lap followup to their excellent 2019 album Dos City with a 15-minute long EP of off-kilter bangers that in spite of its insanity, shows the group at their most focused. Noisy, dissonant and chaotic, and yet had me nodding the whole time.

Somewhere between boom bap, Bomb Squad-esque sampling and production, a cavalier approach to melody, free jazz, punk rock, and something uniquely Japanese, Dos Siki is a great example of how you can still have a lot of fun while breaking boundaries and wildly experimenting. Get in while you still can.

東京で活動するヒップホップ・トリオ＝Dos Monos は、2019年に発表したクールな1stアルバム『Dos City』に続く凱歌のラップを、激情的かつ活気に満ちた本作で披露しており、その熱量からも活動の充実振りを如実に物語っている。ノイジーでアヴァンギャルド、そしてカオティックな雰囲気にもかかわらず、それらを受け入れてずっと彼らのビートとフロウに身を委ねてしまうのだ。 

ブーン・バップ、ボム・スクアッドのようなサンプリング、サウンド・プロダクション、メロディへの自信満々なアプローチ、フリー・ジャズ、パンク、そして日本人独特なアティテュード……それらが渾然一体となって鳴らされる本作は、様々な境界線を越え、限界まで試行錯誤をしながらも、いかに楽しんで音楽を作ることができるのかを指し示す好例といえるだろう。今のうちにチェックを。
